Is Suicide Contagious?

Jessica | April 30, 2014

On Sunday night, Oprah's network OWN, aired 'Running From Crazy', a documentary examining the personal journey of, Mariel Hemingway, the granddaughter of Ernest Hemingway, as she strives for a greater understanding of her family history of suicide and mental illness. As a survivor, I relate to Mariel's overwhelming fear that has guided her on her quest to lead a life of purpose. A quest to ensure that the ending to her story does not mirror those ...

After Death Communication with a Medium

Becky | April 16, 2014

This past weekend, I sprung for tickets to see “Theresa Caputo Live: The Experience” in Chicago. Most people know Theresa as the “Long Island Medium” from her popular TV show on TLC. Becky | April 6, 2014

Last year, a girl I was friends with in high school, lost her 11-year old sister suddenly. I did not know how she passed away until a few months ago when I was invited to a fundraiser on Facebook. This has come up during conversations with my grief counselor and I remain intrigued by the possibility. I also want to better understand what this predisposition actually means. (I found this article about “The Genetic Basis for Suicidal Behavior” in Psychiatric Times, but haven’t made my ...

Treatment for the Suicidal

Jessica | March 20, 2014

On television's "The View" this morning, the hosts briefly discussed the apparent suicide of Mick Jagger's former girlfriend, L'Wren Scott. I did not catch this segment in its entirety; however my attention was drawn to the TV when one of the hosts stated, "You need to reach out to someone, as there are always other options." Since the segment aired this morning, I have found myself thinking about the treatment available for the suicidal. I ...
