TED Talk, JD Schramm: Break the Silence for Suicide Attempt Survivors

Jessica | August 7, 2014

I was introduced to this TED talk, JD Schramm: Break the Silence for Suicide Attempt Survivors (click underlined portion to watch), a few months ago, and wanted to pass it along to you all.  The speaker happens to be a man who attempted suicide, and was fortunate enough to be blessed with a second chance at life.  I know that our readers, myself included, were not this lucky as our loved ones were successful in their attempt. After the loss of my ...

Accepting that Life Goes on After Death

Becky | July 3, 2014

No matter how much time has passed, I still can’t seem to get over the fact that life continues to progress without my Dad here to be a part of it. It seems like the past few months have brought constant reminders that he’s gone and won’t be able to experience all of the exciting things that are happening for me right now. In May, my husband and I sold our condo in the city and bought our first house in the Chicago suburbs. It was a big step, but ...

Jessica | June 15, 2014

Celebrating holidays after the loss of a loved to suicide can be extremely difficult.  Becky and I wanted to take the time to talk about how we mark Father's Day after dad died and how it impacts us. Becky's Story It’s hard to believe another Father’s Day weekend is upon us. I still find it difficult to ...

Frequent Dreams about my Dad after his Death

Becky | May 27, 2014

After my dad died, I remember wanting nothing more than to be “visited” by him in my dreams. I often heard other survivors talk about wonderful dreams they had experienced – some that helped them find closure or assurance that their loved one was now in a better place. It took quite a long time for me to experience a dream. I can’t remember what that first one was about, exactly, but I think it was something pretty random – like a flicker of ...

A Month full of Memories of My Dad

Becky | May 10, 2014

April is always one of the bigger months for me in terms of grieving the loss of my father. The month starts with his birthday, which is followed shortly by Opening Day for Major League Baseball and then Easter. All of these dates remind me so much of him and the traditions he loved to follow. He especially enjoyed celebrating birthdays, including his own. On the morning of his birthday, he used to stop by a local bakery to pick up treats to ...
